Christmas has come early for two Port Macquarie community groups which will share in over $25,000 in Commonwealth grants.
Port Macquarie Community College will receive $20,000 towards upgrading equipment and to provide air conditioning for its MakerSpace area which is used to help at risk young people find a way to love learning, across a range of skill sets from woodwork to music.
The Port Macquarie Tourism Association’s Christmas cheer is $6,640 to install a free telescope on the headland at Gaol Point for locals and tourists.
The Association expects the telescope will be well used during the annual May to October whale migration and will be in place for the northward journey in Autumn.
Mr Hartsuyker said the funds were provided from the Stronger Communities program, which he said had been a great supporter of Port Macquarie in 2018.
The Tacking Point area alone has been the recipient of three ommonwealth grants this year, including funds in support of the road upgrade to the lighthouse in association with Port Macquarie Hastings Council, for expansion of the Lions sponsored playground near the Tacking Point Surf Lifesaving Club a few weeks ago, and now for the telescope.
