• Works begin on $13.44 million upgrade to EPIC stadium
• Upgrade will revitalise the Coffs Coast region’s premier sporting facility
• The Coalition Government invested $6.5 million into the project

The Coffs Coast region is set to become a major draw card for sporting events with a $13 million upgrade to EPIC Stadium to deliver first class facilities for players and spectators.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the Coalition’s $500 million Building Better Regions Fund invested $6.5 million into the project.

“The redeveloped stadium will be another way Coffs Harbour can attract tourists, and create new jobs in tourism,” Mr Chester said.

“The project will create 62 jobs during construction, and another 41 permanent jobs when the stadium reopens.

“I want to help build better regions, and getting behind sports tourism is one way we can do that in Coffs Harbour.”

Nationals Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker said the project will upgrade the stadium and revitalise the Coffs Coast region’s premier sporting facility as the centrepiece of the Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure Centre.

“The project will deliver two new grandstands on the Northern and Southern sides of the stadium each seating 950 people, refurbish the existing grandstand, add digital signage screens, new scoreboard and lifts, as well as a new 150 space carpark,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“The improved stadium will cater for a varied range of sports and will enable the region to attract new tournaments and world class events.”

Mayor of Coffs Harbour City Council Denise Knight said I am so thrilled to turn the first sod in partnership with the Australian Government who are co-funding the upgrade with Council.

“Together we are investing into the future of not only C.ex Coffs International Stadium, and the many sports and events that utilise it, but also into the ongoing visitor economy of the Coffs Coast,” Cr Knight said.

“The Stadium and sports tourism already generate over $30 million into the Coffs Harbour economy, and these much needed upgrades will only help that number grow.”

This project is jointly funded with the Federal Coalition Government committing $6,560,000, Coffs Harbour City Council $6,560,000 as well as an additional $470,000 in kind contribution, Coffs Ex-Services Memorial and Sporting Club Ltd $300,000, lnfracraft Detailed Joinery Pty Ltd $10,000 and Key Employment Association Limited $10,000.
