Hartsuyker declines nomination for Deputy Leader of The Nationals
December 2, 2007
The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, today announced he would not be accepting the nomination for Deputy Leader of The Nationals.
Mr Hartsuyker said he appreciated the support he had received from colleagues within the Party and constituents.
“The role of Deputy Leader is an important position within The Nationals and for the representation of the interests of people who live in regional and rural Australia.
“However, the role demands a Deputy Leader must spend a substantial amount of time outside of their electorate.
“My first priority has always been the interests of the people of Cowper electorate.
“After careful consideration, I believe I am unable to commit to the extensive periods away from the electorate at this time.
“This decision will enable me to continue to devote my energies to representing the people of Cowper.”
