November 19, 2007 The Nationals Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, today announced a re-elected Coalition Government will provide up to $300,000 to install Closed Circuit TV camera systems in crime hotspots in Kempsey and Nambucca Heads main streets.
“Like me, our community is sick and tired of hoons and vandals on our local streets in Kempsey and Nambucca Heads and the crime and violence committed by local youth gangs,” Mr Hartsuyker said. “That is why I have fought to secure these cameras, as part of the Coalition’s long term plan to make communities like ours safer for local families and residents.
“Today’s announcement will see a re-elected Coalition Government commit up to $200,000 towards CCTV cameras in Kempsey’s Central Business District and up to $100,000 for the Nambucca Heads CBD.
“Through careful management of our $1.1 trillion economy the Coalition has ensured funds are available for important crime prevention projects like these.
“These camera systems can assist police in identifying and apprehending criminals. They will also act as a deterrent to people who may be thinking it is acceptable to commit these acts.
“We are all frustrated by the short-term approach of the State Labor Government. “Only a Coalition Government will hold state Labor governments accountable. By contrast, if Labor wins, Australia will have wall-to-wall union-Labor governments for the first time in our history.
