Coalition commits to establishing Veterans Affairs office in Coffs Harbour
November 20, 2007
The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, announced today a re-elected Coalition Government would establish a new Department of Veterans’ Affairs customer service centre in Coffs Harbour.
Mr Hartsuyker said the new Veterans Affairs Network (VAN) office will provide a high level of support to members of the veteran community in the Cowper electorate and also to serving members of the Australian Defence Force.
“This announcement forms part of the Coalition’s practical, comprehensive plan to look after our veteran community and is a further demonstration of our commitment to maintaining a well-resourced, stand alone Department of Veterans Affairs,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“It also highlights our commitment to ensuring members of the veteran and ADF community in Cowper will continue to have access to high levels of customer service.”
The DVA VAN office will have up to three staff members and will provide a face-to-face point of contact for veterans and their dependants.
The office will also offer a full range of services and support service delivery provided through the DVA call centre network and also via the Internet.
Mr Hartsuyker said the new customer service centre follows last week’s visit to the Cowper electorate by Veterans Affair Minister Bruce Billson.
The new Coffs Harbour VAN office will also provide support for other ex-service organisations in the region and improved outreach services to the veteran community.
It will build on the excellent service that the staff of Centrelink in Coffs Harbour have provided over the years to the veteran community.
