The Nationals’ Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, today welcomed funding for four local organisations which provide vital mental health support services.

A total of $108,000 has been awarded to the organisations through the Capacity Building Grants Programme.

“The programme aims to strengthen organisations involved in the mental health sector through addressing such important areas as consumer participation, community awareness, financial management, the use of information technology and human resource management,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“The four organisations which received funding in the Cowper electorate were:

Nambucca Youth Services $20,000

Dads In Distress:                        $30,000

Lifeline North Coast:            $40,000

CHESS – Coffs Harbour Employment Support Service: $18,265.

“All these organisations provide vital support for people who suffer a mental illness.

“It is important that these services are well prepared and managed in order to provide the best outcomes for those in need.”

Mr Hartsuyker said the Capacity Building Grants Programme commenced with workshops in each jurisdiction to inform non government organisations working in the mental health sector or organisational capacity areas which could be developed to strengthen their organisations.

Following the workshops organisations were invited to apply for up to $40,000 through a competitive grants round.
