The Rudd Government is turning its back on youth mental health services on the North Coast with the local Headspace initiative set to close, Federal MP Luke Hartsuyker said today. Headspace, which provides mental health services for youth in Coffs Harbour, the Nambucca Valley and Bellingen shire, has been advised their funding will be slashed after June 30.

The fight to support regional students affected by Rudd Government changes to Youth Allowance continues with The Nationals taking action to protect those who will be immediately impacted, Federal MP Luke Hartsuyker said today. This week Nationals Senators will be moving amendments to protect those students who are already completing their “gap year”.

Federal MP Luke Hartsuyker has called on Prime Minister to honour his promise in the Parliament and provide Coffs Coast flood victims with one-off cash payments. During a speech delivered in the Federal Parliament last night, Mr Hartsuyker said he had written again to the Prime Minister imploring him to provide the cash grants.
