Rebates for Rainwater Tanks and Greywater Systems
The Nationals’ Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, is encouraging all householders in his north coast electorate to consider applying for the Government’s National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative.
The program provides households with a rebate of up to $500 for the purchase of a rainwater tank or greywater system as a step towards promoting more efficient water use in the home.
Rebates are available for:
- Purchase and installation of a new rainwater tank which is connected for usage in toilets or laundries.
- Purchase and installation of a permanent greywater system.
For 2,000 to 3,999 litre tanks, the rebate is $400 and for tanks greater than 4,000 litres a rebate of $500 is available. A $500 rebate also applies to greywater treatment systems.
The rebates are only available for currently existing and occupied homes, not homes under construction so no local planning requirements will be duplicated.
Nor can the suppliers of tanks apply on behalf of their customers. Applicants must be owners of existing homes which are the principal place of residence.
“We have enjoyed good rainfall in recent times on the NSW north coast,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“But it wasn’t so long ago that we were in the grip of drought as many parts of the country still are today.
“I would encourage all householders to consider taking up this offer of a rebate on new tanks so they can put their rainfall to better use and conserve precious drinking water,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
