Luke launches 2010 charity bike ride for Disabled Surfers’ Association
February 16, 2010
Federal MP Luke Hartsuyker today launched his charity bike ride for 2010 which will again raise funds for the Mid North Coast Disabled Surfers’ Association.
The Disabled Surfers’ Association provides people with disabilities the opportunity to experience the fun and thrill of the surf. This is the second year Luke will complete the ride. Last year more than $6000 was raised for DSA which allowed them to purchase much needed equipment and host open days up and down the Mid North Coast.
BCU – the Bananacoast Credit Union has once again agreed to be the principal sponsor of the charity ride which will be held in March. Luke will commence the 240 km ride in Maclean and finish three days later in Kempsey.
“The Disabled Surfers’ Association do some great work providing people with disabilities the chance to go to the beach and get in the surf,” Luke said. “Such activity is not only physically beneficial but it has the capacity to improve an individual’s confidence.
“However, the DSA do require a lot of equipment to assist the participants so every dollar we raise will make a difference. This is very much a community based organisation and I am delighted that BCU have once again given their support to the ride.”
Luke called on community and service clubs to also get behind the fundraising drive.
“Last year we had a couple of community organisations host a barbecue or morning tea which attracted a lot of support. I am happy to drop in anywhere along the route if it means another donation for the DSA.”
Luke said anyone who wished to support the DSA could contact his office on 66 526233 or phone Chris Allen at the Disabled Surfers’ Association on 0437 274 474. All donations by cheque should be made payable to the Mid North Coast Disabled Surfers Association.
