Luke Hartsuyker, Member for Cowper, says small businesses on the Mid North Coast desperately need the cut to power prices that would be delivered by the National Energy Guarantee.
In Federal Parliament yesterday Mr Hartsuyker asked Small and Family Business Minister Craig Laundy to detail the benefits of the Coalition scheme.
Mr Laundy said that in visits to small businesses across the country it never took long before the conversation turned to power prices.
He said that for many such businesses the cost of power was now their biggest expense, overtaking even rent as an overhead.
He highlighted that Coalition efforts to bring down power prices had already cut wholesale prices in New South Wales by around 20 per cent, and that the NEG would deliver, on average, 20 per cent relief.
Mr Hartsuyker said Labor’s proposals for an increase in emission reductions to 45 per cent compared with the 26 per cent target under the NEG would inevitably drive power prices through the roof.
“If we are going to get power prices coming down for our small businesses the parliament, and the states, need to back the NEG,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
