National Serviceman’s Day in Nambucca

14 Feb 17

Nationals Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker, was honored to be in Nambucca Heads on Sunday to attend the ceremony to remember our national servicemen.

“I would like to commend the Australian National Service Men’s Association Nambucca Valley sub branch for their efforts to commemorate the contribution made to the security of nation by our national servicemen,“ Mr Hartsuyker said.

The post WW2 National Service scheme was in two parts 1951-1959 and then re-introduced in 1964 and operated until December 1972. It was developed to make sure Australia had enough well trained fit men, of appropriate age to meet the operational requirements of our armed services at that time.

The service at Nambucca Heads was one of many that being hosted around Australia to honour our National Servicemen.

“Many national servicemen were posted overseas and served in major conflicts fighting along side regular troops with valour.

“The contribution of our National Service men has played a significant part in the defence of our country.

“Adding reverence and a sense of pride to the occasion was our local youth air cadet squadron.

“The cadets of 331 Squadron as always, did an outstanding job, making it a memorable service,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
