Proposed changes to local content requirements for regional radio stations
October 14, 2011
Today the Gillard Government announced it intends to change the local content requirements for regional radio stations.
The Coalition will be looking very carefully at any changes to the licence conditions and local content requirements.
Local content is an important part of regional radio programming and it is vital that regional radio stations can respond to the needs of rural and regional communities.
I have today written to the Communications Minister Senator Conroy, seeking an urgent briefing on this matter.
The Coalition will be closely monitoring any proposed changes to local content requirements to ensure that locally produced content remains a part of the licence conditions of regional radio stations.
